A Healthy ProstateWhat Are Saw Palmetto and Pygeum Africanum?Saw Palmetto is a dwarf palm indigenous to Florida and has been shown to be useful in the treatment of benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH). Clinical trials have been very encouraging. Patients are seeing significant relief of overall clinical symptoms after only one use. More than twenty double blind, placebo-controlled clinical studies have reported that Saw Palmetto extract relieved all major symptoms of BPH. Saw Palmetto works on several aspects of BPH. It inhibits the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone, which some experts believe is responsible for BPH. In addition, it speeds the breakdown and elimination of other hormones that are also believed to be responsible for prostate enlargement. Furthermore, it reduces inflammation and fluid accumulation. Pygeum Africanum is an evergreen tree found in Africa. Studies show it helps reduce painful and urgent urination thereby rendering it an effective treatment in BPH. Pygeum Africanum inhibits the prostates cholesterol uptake, antagonizing testosterone and thus reducing prostatic inflammation. Pygeum Africanum has been shown to be effective in treating a number of prostate disorders. Because of their similar and complementary actions, Pygeum Africanum and Saw Palmetto are often used in combination. Positive ResultsPositive results in the following areas have been observed in research and clinical studies: decrease in urinary frequency Are Saw Palmetto and Pygeum Africanum All I Need?Other nutrients can help to protect the prostate, are critical to testosterone synthesis and action, sperm formation, prostate function, and health. For example, frequent prostate infections may signal a lack of zinc within the prostate. Since nutrients are synergistic we cannot ignore the importance of full spectrum nutrition in the optimal health of any individual. For specific nutrients to be absorbed, utilized and perform, we must supply our bodies with the 100 plus nutrients it needs on a daily basis. Anything less would be less that optimal, as would results. We recommend: Pro Flow, Total or Ultra Toddy, and Multi-EFA. The Institute of Nutritional Science, Ltd. [ Back to Pro Flow ] |
